Where to look in the District of Columbia

We do not have District of Columbia records yet, so a name search here will not find anyone.

To find someone held by the DC Department of Corrections, call its Records Office at (202) 523-7060, or check custody status online at VINELink, the website of VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), the free notification service the Department names on its Locate an Inmate page: search by full name or by DCDC number (the number the DC Department of Corrections gave them). For someone already transferred to federal prison, search the federal inmate locator by name or DCDC number.

The DC Department of Corrections runs the DC Jail (the Central Detention Facility) and the Correctional Treatment Facility. Most people at the DC Jail are waiting for their cases to be decided or are serving sentences for misdemeanors (less serious crimes). People sentenced for felonies (serious crimes) are transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
