Open the Inmate Population Information Search

The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) runs a public search called Inmate Population Information Search. You can search by last name, first name or DC number.

  • It covers people sentenced to state prison or state supervision, with current and prior offenses.
  • People sentenced to county jail or county probation are not in it.

The number to write down is the DC number: six characters, all numbers or one letter followed by five numbers. You will need it to send money or mail, to set up calls and visits, and to find the same person again.

Florida state prisons we list

We do not copy the Florida prison inmate list yet. These are the state prisons in our Florida directory, with address, phone and visiting basics. Use the department's search above to find a person.

State prison, county jail or federal prison?

The Florida Department of Corrections holds people serving state prison sentences. Someone arrested in the last few days is almost always in a county jail instead, and will not show up in the state prison search yet. For a recent arrest, start with the county: open our Florida page and pick the county where the arrest happened.

People sentenced for federal crimes are held by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which has its own search. See federal inmate search (BOP).

Questions

What do I need to search the FDC inmate list?

The Inmate Population Information Search lets you search by last name, first name or DC number. A full legal name or the ID number works best.

Someone was just arrested in Florida. Will they be in the FDC search?

Usually not. People who were just arrested are held in a county jail first. They are moved to a state prison only after a sentence to state prison. Check the county jail where the arrest happened.

Is searchinmates.org part of the Florida Department of Corrections?

No. searchinmates.org is a private website. It is not affiliated with the Florida Department of Corrections or any government agency. The department's own search is the source of record.
